I have to admit, moving to #Halifax was such a big step for me. Originally from Newfoundland, I had moved to Ottawa area in 1989 and stayed there till 2006. While at work one day, my boss came to me with an ultimatum, move to NS or get a pay cut here. It took a month of deliberation to decide if it was the right thing for me. Finally in Oct of 06, I found the courage to make the plunge.

I remember Halifax from my younger days, frequenting Peddlers Pub, The Palace and such. I thought, this is going to be great. I was in for surprise. I was no longer 19 . I was 36, single, no friends or family. Halifax was a complete stranger to me.

For weeks on end, I immersed myself into my work. I had left my dog behind as I was travelling all around Eastern Canada opening up centres for the company I was with. With each weekend that passed, I grew lonier. I cried every Sunday and cursed my move. Why did I come here, I repeated over and over. It wasn’t till after a year of living here, that Halifax became my home.

13 years have passed since that move, (oddly enough today is the anniversary of my move) and I have grown quite fond of our harbourside city. Walking along the boardwalk, smelling the ocean with the sun glistening down, I am forever thankful. #Halifax is such an eclectic city! Our restaurants are amazing. The local entertainment can’t be beaten. The scenery. The people. I have no regrets.

Don’t think twice about packing your bags to move to our great city, it will grow on you.
